AI policy

I have LOTS of feelings about AI, which you can read about in this blog, this blog and this blog.

I continue to experiment with both paid and unpaid versions of Large Language Models, like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, Jasper, and copy.ai. I don’t like them, but I know the technology is not going away, so I want to know how to use them. I received my “Certified Prompt Engineer” badge upon completion of the Copywriter Club A.I. for Copywriters & Creatives course.

To this day, I still find the text generated by AI tools to be:

  • unnatural

  • cliché

  • uninteresting

  • inaccurate, false and even misleading

  • low quality

I also suspect that AI-generated text may be:

  • penalized by algorithms

  • at risk for plagiarism and lawsuits

  • racist, sexist and politically biased

I take into consideration the reputation and publicly-disclosed motives of the developers whose tools I choose to use.

I do not disclose company names, locations, identifying, nor proprietary details in any prompts.

I will not post, nor submit to clients, any text that is AI-generated, without thoroughly fact-checking, restructuring, and editing for clarity, brand voice, and originality. Which frankly takes longer than my process for writing original, compelling, converting copy, and I find it incredibly frustrating and unsatisfying.

If you’d like to discuss ways to incorporate Generative AI into your project, let’s talk. It won’t save either of us time nor money, but I do love technology when it supports creativity, and I’m interested in your perspective.
